The latest Google Chrome for iOS and android using proxy servers hosted by Google to reduce cellular data usage, its has been shown to reduce the size of web pages by 50%. Now someone transform this chrome data compression to Google chrome desktop version, by install an extension called “Data compression Proxy”.
This extension allows us to reduce overall data usage are performed by Google servers. When the Data Compression Proxy feature is enabled, Chrome browser opens a connection between your desktop and one of the optimization servers running in Google’s datacenters sends all HTTP (but not HTTPS) traffic, which uses SPDY protocol to speed up web browsing and save bandwidth.
Data Compression Proxy Chrome extension
Download Data compression proxy extension from Google chrome web store, a green color icon appeared after installed which showed is running.
You can find the overall data statistics by key in “chrome://net-internals/#bandwidth” at chrome address bar. If you are always browsing Facebook, Gmail etc which using SSL connection (HTTPS), the traffic will not go through Google proxy server, so data saving % will low.
I will suggest that turn off data compression proxy extension if you are usually use desktop PC, but its will be better turn it on if use your phone as WIFI hotspot connected to your laptop, thus to save data usage.
