Update Xperia Neo V To ICS 4.0.3 And Root On ICS Firmware

Last month Sony released latest Android ICS 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) official firmware to all Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, Neo V and Ray smartphone. Before that i had brought a Sony Xperia Neo V phone to my father, last weekend update to ICS 4.0.3 and also root it with official ICS 4.0.3 firmware successfully.

A lot of Xperia phone users facing problem after update to ICS 4.0.3 version as i search in internet, such as can’t receive WiFi signal, recording video sound become mono, changing interface can’t react fast or hang and so on.Since my purpose is to root my xperia neo v phone so i had forced to update it.

ICS 4.0.3 Updated

Update Xperia ICS 4.0.3 is simply, use Official PC Companion (PCC) released by Sony install into PC, then connect PC with Phone through USB cable. PCC software will detect and will inform a new version (4.1.A.0.562) ICS 4.0.3 already released, asking you follow steps provided to update it.

I do not recommend you follow above step updating to ICS 4.0.3 version because of app and software compatibility problem. What i do is first back up SMS, call log and contacts, then back up all SD card contents to PC and reformat SD card before start to updated and having clean installation.

SMS and cal log back up using SMS Backup + (free) Android app,  it’s will back up the stuff to your Gmail account. Contacts just use Google sync and back up to your Google account.

After updated to ICS 4.0.3 through PCC, then use Repair application via PCC.First do the setup without connecting your phone to PC (only connect when you are asked to), then follow step PCC > SUPPORT ZONE> SOFTWARE UPDATE> REPAIR SOFTWARE (written with blue). Now transfer back all SD card backup contents to SD card after completed this repair process.

Xperia ICS 4.0.3 will asking to disable Timescape application to increase phone performance (can enable back) and provide more RAM but seem RAM consumption almost same as Android 2.3 version with idle mode the free RAM are 90 MB to 110 MB only. So with root the phone i can delete Gmail, Facebook, YouTube etc that all these build in system app in Neo V to increase Free RAM memory.

Root your phone at your own risk. These guides are released by developers.Techgravy will not responsible for any damage happened to your device in the process of following the instructions mentioned in this article
